Bacterial Disease Management

Evaluate novel biologicals, biostimulants, and nanomaterials to manage critical bacterial diseases of peppers: This USDA SCRI funded project focuses on disease management caused by foliar bacterial pathogens of pepper. The end goal of this five year project is to decrease the economic loss in pepper production in the Northeast and promote sustainable, profitable production and environmental stewardship. Towards this end, the Huerta Lab is investigating bacterial disease incidence and severity on pepper production in the state of North Carolina and the feasibility and efficacy of biologicals, biostimulants, and nanomatrerials to manage:

Bacterial leaf spot caused by Xanthomonas spp.

Bacterial speck caused by Pseudomonas syringae pv. syringae

Bacterial canker caused by Clavibacter michiganensis subsp. michiganensis
